In 1898 Pope Clement XII, on a pilgrimage to Loreto, stopped by the “Ostaria” place and was so struck by it, that he gave to the town’s church a canvas with the Loreto’s Black Madonna drawing, and renamed the place in “Borgo Loreto”.

“Ostaria” used to be the only connecting route between Ancona and Rome, always very busy for that: the “Locanda” – which at the time was just a tavern – used to be a support to the carriages, a refreshment and a horses’ changing spot.

The person who gave an important stamp to the activity was Ms. Luisa: right after the war, in the 1950s, she opened and managed a restaurant in Rome. Years later, when she got back home, she took that experience with her, that allowed her to change the inn, from a simple tavern to a real restaurant.

Her dishes and banquets became famous throughout the Vallesina’s area: it used to be a privilege to set a wedding dinner, a Baptism or a Confirmation “At Luisa’s”, the Locanda’s name at that time.

In 1983 her son Enrico and his wife Maria Teresa (known as Mariola) run the business. They decidde to renovate an old farmhouse and move the inn there, which definitely became “Locanda Hostaria della Posta”. In this changing they also added a ten rooms’ Hotel business.

After Enrico’s death, and 120 years of family tradition, the activity today is managed by his wife Maria Teresa, his sons Alberto and Letizia, and Alberto’s wife, Fatjona.

In 2001 the kitchen made an important renovation and, from the 30sqm, it went up to the 130sqm. The car park got also larger from 25 to 60 cars.

In 2015 the restaurant has been modernized: from a rustic style, typical of the 80s, it turned into a more contemporary style.
